Alan Titchmarsh, ITV, Sandi Toksvig, Lulu: Stars back campaign to plant 75,000 trees for Queen's Platinum Jubilee

A host of celebrities have backed a campaign to plant thousands of trees to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The project will see 75,000 native trees planted in community spaces across the UK by the end of 2022.

Stars including ITV’s Alan Titchmarsh, comedian Sandi Toksvig and singer Lulu have given their support.

Toksvig said: “Trees are the lungs of our planet. They clean our air and water, provide homes for wildlife, and make our towns and cities more beautiful. I am delighted to support the Queen’s Green Canopy, which will create a lasting legacy for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.”

Lulu added: “I am so excited to be involved with this project. It is a wonderful way to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and to create a lasting legacy for future generations.”

The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The project aims to plant a tree for every year of the Queen’s reign, creating a lasting legacy of new native trees across the UK.

The project is being led by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), with support from the Woodland Trust, the National Trust, and the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC). A total of 75,000 trees will be planted in community spaces across the UK by the end of 2022, including schools, hospitals, parks, and other public spaces.

The trees will be a mix of native species, including oak, ash, beech, and birch, and will be planted to create new woodlands, hedgerows, and avenues of trees.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the project will also have a social impact, bringing people together to plant trees and create new green spaces in their communities.
