Swiss Take Over Presidency of Alpine States Association

Ticino to Host 2024 Annual Summit

Switzerland has assumed the presidency of the Association of the Alpine States (AAS) for the upcoming year.

The AAS is an international organization composed of eight countries that share the Alpine mountain range: Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia, and Switzerland.

The AAS was founded in 1991 to promote cooperation and sustainable development in the Alpine region. The organization's priorities include protecting the environment, promoting economic development, and fostering cultural exchange.

The Swiss Presidency of the AAS will be led by Ignazio Cassis, the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Cassis said that Switzerland is committed to working with its AAS partners to address the challenges facing the Alpine region.

"The Alps are a precious asset for our countries," Cassis said. "We must work together to protect this unique environment and promote sustainable development in the region."

One of the key priorities of the Swiss Presidency will be to prepare for the AAS's 2024 Annual Summit, which will be held in Ticino, Switzerland.

The summit will bring together the heads of government of the AAS member states to discuss a wide range of issues, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and regional cooperation.

The Swiss Presidency of the AAS will also focus on promoting the AAS's work to a wider audience. The organization has launched a new website and social media accounts to share information about its activities and priorities.

The AAS is a valuable forum for cooperation between Alpine states. The Swiss Presidency will work to strengthen the organization and promote its goals.
