Bayer Leverkusen threatens to miss out on their first German championship since 1988.
In the guest game at TSG Hoffenheim, the Werkself lost 3:1 (1:1) on Saturday and fell nine points behind leaders FC Bayern Munich on matchday 25. Midfielder Granit Xhaka also sharply criticized the team's performance after the game.
Weak defense and too few chances scored
"We know that we have certain weaknesses, which we have shown again today," said the former captain of Arsenal FC at the DAZN microphone. "We gave Hoffenheim the lead. If you want to be champions, you can't do that."
The Swiss made serious allegations against his team and complained about too few scoring chances: "We have to create more chances. We also had to create more chances in the first half. We didn't do that."
