BBC Radio 2 presenter shake-up as Johnnie Walker 'sad to say goodbye' ahead of last show
Veteran broadcaster to leave after nearly 50 years at the BBC
Walker, 78, will present his final Radio 2 show on Sunday
BBC Radio 2 presenter Johnnie Walker has announced that he will be leaving the station after nearly 50 years.
Walker, 78, will present his final show on Sunday (May 29). He has been a presenter on Radio 2 since 1973, and has hosted a variety of shows, including the weekday afternoon show and the Sunday morning show.
In a statement, Walker said: "It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to leave BBC Radio 2.
"I have loved every minute of my time at the BBC, and I am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given over the years.
"However, I feel that the time is now right for me to move on to new challenges and adventures.
"I would like to thank all of my listeners for their support over the years. It has been an honor to be part of your lives.
"I wish BBC Radio 2 all the best for the future.
Walker's departure is a major shake-up for Radio 2, which is the UK's most popular radio station.
It is not yet known who will replace Walker on the weekday afternoon show, but it is likely to be a major name in broadcasting.
