Cheshire MP Fiona Bruce has said she will cooperate with police after reports of an alleged assault. The Conservative MP for Congleton was reportedly involved in an incident at a constituency event on Friday evening. A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "We are aware of an incident that took place at a constituency event in Congleton on Friday evening and we are currently investigating the circumstances."

Bruce has denied any wrongdoing

In a statement, Bruce said: "I am aware of the reports and I am cooperating fully with the police investigation. I would like to make clear that I deny any wrongdoing and I am confident that my innocence will be proven." Bruce has been the MP for Congleton since 2010. She is a former journalist and broadcaster. She is married to the former BBC presenter Andrew Neil.
