Could Ben Chilwell’s Stamford Bridge journey end in January?

Chelsea left-back still struggling to live up to his billing

Ben Chilwell has endured a torrid time at Chelsea since arriving from Leicester for a reported fee of £50 million in the summer of 2020.

The Blues smashed their transfer record to sign the England international, who was widely regarded as one of the finest full-backs in the Premier League during his time at the King Power Stadium.

However, Chilwell has struggled to replicate his Leicester form in a Chelsea shirt and has found himself behind Marcos Alonso in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Chilwell out of favor under Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel’s arrival in January 2021 did little to improve Chilwell’s fortunes and the German coach has often preferred to use Alonso as his first-choice left-back.

Chilwell has made just 11 Premier League starts under Tuchel and has failed to convince the Chelsea boss that he should be a regular in the starting XI.

The 25-year-old’s struggles have continued this season and he has started just one of Chelsea’s eight Premier League games.

January exit on the cards?

With the January transfer window approaching, speculation is mounting that Chilwell could leave Chelsea in search of regular first-team football.

There are a number of clubs who are reportedly interested in signing Chilwell, including Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Chilwell is a talented player with a lot to offer, but he needs to find a club where he can play regularly in order to fulfill his potential.
