## Red Bull Co-Founder Dietrich Mateschitz Passes at 78 Dietrich Mateschitz, the co-founder of energy drink giant Red Bull, has died at the age of 78. Mateschitz, an Austrian entrepreneur, founded Red Bull in 1987 with Thai businessman Chaleo Yoovidhya. Mateschitz was born in 1944 in Austria. He studied economics and business administration at the University of Vienna but did not complete his studies. After working in marketing for several companies, he met Yoovidhya in 1982. Together, they developed the energy drink Krating Daeng (Red Bull) in 1987. Red Bull quickly became a global success, and Mateschitz became a billionaire. He was known for his aggressive marketing campaigns and his support of extreme sports. Mateschitz also owned the Formula One team Red Bull Racing and the soccer club FC Red Bull Salzburg.
