DJ Johnnie Walker says it will be ‘sad to say goodbye’ ahead of last show
Iconic BBC Radio 1 DJ announces his departure after 30 years
Walker, 52, will present his final show on 31 March, bringing an end to three decades on the airwaves
BBC Radio 1 DJ Johnnie Walker has announced that he will be leaving the station after 30 years, calling it a "sad" moment.
The 52-year-old, who has been a fixture on the station since 1993, will present his final show on 31 March.
Walker said he was "proud" of his time at Radio 1, but added that it was "time to move on".
"I've had an amazing time at Radio 1, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such an iconic station," he said.
"But after 30 years, I feel it's time for a new chapter in my life."
Walker began his career at Radio 1 in 1993, presenting the weekday afternoon show. He moved to the weekend breakfast show in 1997, and has presented it ever since.
During his time at Radio 1, Walker has interviewed some of the biggest names in music, including Madonna, U2, and Coldplay.
He has also been a vocal supporter of new music, and has helped to break many new artists.
Walker's departure is a major loss for Radio 1. He is one of the station's most popular and respected DJs, and his shows will be missed by millions of listeners.
However, Walker said he was excited about the future and looking forward to new challenges.
"I'm not sure what the future holds, but I'm excited to find out," he said.
"I'd like to thank everyone at Radio 1 for their support over the years, and I wish the station all the best for the future."
