Dortmund's Slump Continues with Loss at Augsburg, Leipzig Takes Bundesliga Lead
Augsburg Upsets Struggling Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund's dismal run continued on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat at Augsburg. The result leaves Dortmund languishing in the bottom half of the Bundesliga table, while Augsburg moved up to 11th place.
Augsburg took the lead in the 25th minute through Florian Niederlechner. The striker latched onto a long ball over the top and slotted home past Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
Dortmund had plenty of chances to equalize, but they were wasteful in front of goal. Erling Haaland missed a sitter from close range, while Marco Reus and Julian Brandt also spurned good opportunities.
Leipzig Capitalizes on Dortmund's Woes
RB Leipzig took advantage of Dortmund's slip-up to move top of the Bundesliga table.
Leipzig beat Borussia Monchengladbach 4-1 at home, with Christopher Nkunku scoring a hat-trick. The Frenchman now has 10 goals in the Bundesliga this season, making him the league's top scorer.
Leipzig's win means they are now one point clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
Dortmund's Crisis Deepens
Dortmund's defeat at Augsburg was their fourth in their last five Bundesliga matches.
The result leaves them in 10th place in the table, just four points above the relegation zone.
Dortmund's slump is a major concern for manager Marco Rose. The German coach is under pressure to turn things around quickly, or he could face the sack.
