Marcel Schneider claims maiden DP World Tour title with two-shot victory in Ras Al Khaimah

Schneider holds off challenge from Ewen Ferguson at Al Hamra Golf Club

The German's victory is his first on the DP World Tour

Marcel Schneider has claimed his maiden DP World Tour title with a two-shot victory at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.

The German held off the challenge of Ewen Ferguson at Al Hamra Golf Club, carding a closing 68 to finish on 19 under par.

Ferguson, who had led after the third round, finished in a tie for second place alongside England's David Horsey.

Schneider's victory is his first on the DP World Tour and comes after a string of near misses in recent months.

The 33-year-old had finished runner-up in the Mauritius Open and the Joburg Open earlier this season.

He also tied for third in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic.

Schneider's victory is a major boost to his hopes of qualifying for the Ryder Cup later this year.

He is currently ranked 56th in the world and is in contention for one of the nine automatic places on the European team.

The top four players in the world rankings, as well as the top five players in the European Points List, will qualify automatically for the team.

The remaining three places will be selected by European captain Luke Donald.

Schneider's victory will give him a significant boost in the world rankings and will move him closer to a place in the automatic qualifying spots.
