Germans plan winter holidays 2024/2025: Demand as high as ever – but one region has become more affordable
Germans are planning their winter holidays for 2024/2025 earlier than ever before, according to a new study by the German Travel Association (DRV).
The study found that 40% of Germans have already started planning their winter holidays, up from 30% at the same time last year.
The most popular destinations for German winter holidays are Austria, Italy and Switzerland, followed by France, Spain and Norway.
However, there is one region that has become more affordable for German winter holidaymakers: Bulgaria.
The study found that the average price of a week's winter holiday in Bulgaria has fallen by 10% compared to last year.
This makes Bulgaria a more attractive option for German holidaymakers who are looking for a budget-friendly winter break.
Other key findings of the study include:
- The average length of a German winter holiday is 10 days.
- The average budget for a German winter holiday is €1,000.
- The most popular activities for German winter holidaymakers are skiing, snowboarding and hiking.
The DRV's study also found that Germans are increasingly booking their winter holidays online.
In 2022, 60% of Germans booked their winter holidays online, up from 50% in 2021.
This trend is expected to continue in 2023, as more and more Germans become comfortable booking their holidays online.
