Germany misses chance to reach semi-finals
Norway wins 27:25 (13:11)
The German women's national handball team has missed the chance to reach the semi-finals of the European Championship in Slovenia, North Macedonia and Montenegro. In the main round on Sunday (04.12.2022), the team of national coach Markus Gaugisch lost 27:25 (13:11) to Norway and thus finished third in Group II.
In the semi-finals on Tuesday (06.12.2022), Olympic champion France will now face 2016 European champion Norway, while Denmark will play Romania.
Before the semi-finals, the two main round groups will be merged on Monday (05.12.2022). Germany will start the second main round with a deficit of two points and will play against Montenegro, the Netherlands and Hungary.
Against Norway, the German team had a good start and quickly took a 3:1 lead. However, the Norwegians, who had won all three of their main round matches so far, fought back and took a 13:11 lead by the break.
After the change of ends, Germany initially kept up well and equalised at 17:17 (40th minute). However, the Norwegians then pulled away again to make it 22:18 (49th minute).
The German team never gave up and fought their way back to 25:26 (58th minute). However, Norway's Nora Mørk scored the final goal of the match to secure the victory for her team.
Emily Bölk was Germany's top scorer with six goals, followed by Alina Grijseels and Mia Zschocke with five goals each.
