Herbert Prohaska and Hans Krankl to be inducted into the Austrian Football Hall of Fame
Two of Austria's greatest footballers, Herbert Prohaska and Hans Krankl, are to be inducted into the Austrian Football Hall of Fame.
The announcement was made by the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) on Monday. Prohaska and Krankl will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Vienna on 21 March 2023.
Prohaska, 69, is a two-time Austrian Footballer of the Year and was a key member of the Austria team that reached the semi-finals of the 1978 FIFA World Cup.
Krankl, 65, is Austria's all-time leading goalscorer with 34 goals in 69 appearances for the national team. He was also a key member of the Austria team that reached the second round of the 1982 FIFA World Cup.
Both Prohaska and Krankl have enjoyed successful careers as managers, with Prohaska winning the Austrian Bundesliga title with Austria Wien in 1993 and Krankl winning the Austrian Cup with Rapid Wien in 1995.
The Austrian Football Hall of Fame was established in 2004 to honour the greatest players in Austrian football history. Prohaska and Krankl will be the 25th and 26th players to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
"Herbert Prohaska and Hans Krankl are two of the greatest players in Austrian football history," said ÖFB President Gerhard Milletich. "They are both world-class players who have represented Austria with distinction.
"Their induction into the Austrian Football Hall of Fame is a fitting recognition of their outstanding careers."
