The reboot is already the second attempt by RTL to revive the series. Between 2008 and 2009, there was a series called "Rex – A Cop's Best Friend" with Kaspar Capparoni, which however remained the only season.
In the new episodes, the canine detective will be played by Belgian Shepherd Dog named "Santos". The role of his human partner will be played by actor Kaspar Capparoni. The new season will consist of twelve episodes.
The cult series about a detective dog who solves crimes together with his human partner was a worldwide success in the 1990s and early 2000s. The original series ran for ten seasons and was broadcast in over 100 countries. In Germany, the series was shown on RTL from 1996 to 2004.
