Last-gasp penalty heartbreak for Wrexham as substitute Seb Revan concedes 95th-minute penalty to draw with Charlton
Wrexham were denied a vital victory in their push for the National League play-offs as they conceded a stoppage-time penalty to draw 1-1 with Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Tuesday night.
Substitute Seb Revan was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area in the dying seconds of the game, allowing Charlton striker Jayden Stockley to equalise from the spot.
It was a cruel blow for Wrexham, who had looked set to secure all three points after taking the lead through Paul Mullin in the first half.
The Dragons had defended resolutely for much of the second half, but they were eventually undone by a moment of madness from Revan.
The result leaves Wrexham in eighth place in the National League table, three points adrift of the play-off places with just two games remaining.
It was a bitter blow for Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson, who said: "It's a tough one to take. We defended brilliantly for most of the game, but we've made a mistake at the end and it's cost us."
Charlton manager Dean Holden was delighted with his team's fighting spirit, saying: "We showed great character to come back from behind and get a point. We kept going until the end and we got our reward."
The draw leaves Charlton in fourth place in the table, just one point behind third-placed Chesterfield.
With two games remaining, the Addicks are still in with a chance of automatic promotion to League One.
