Carlsbad 5000 - Magnus Ditlev wins again
Another win for the Dane at the popular Carlsbad 5000
Ditlev retains his title
Carlsbad, CA, USA. Magnus Ditlev has made it two wins from two at the popular Carlsbad 5000 after retaining his title in dominant fashion on Sunday.
The Danish international clocked 13:25 to finish 24 seconds ahead of second-placed Leonard Korir of the United States, while another American, Sam Chelanga, finished third a further six seconds adrift.
The women’s race was won by Ethiopia’s Senbere Teferi in 15:25, with Kenya’s Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi finishing second in 15:31, and America’s Emily Sisson third one second further back.
The Carlsbad 5000 is one of the most popular road races in the United States, attracting a field of over 10,000 runners each year.
Ditlev’s victory is a continuation of his excellent form this year. The 27-year-old has already won the Copenhagen Half Marathon and the Great Manchester Run, and he is now the favorite for the European 5000m title in Munich later this year.
Ditlev said after the race that he was very happy with his performance.
"I felt strong today and I knew that I had a good chance of winning," he said. "The conditions were perfect and the crowd was amazing. I’m very happy to have won again."
Ditlev’s victory will give him a lot of confidence going into the European Championships. He will be one of the favorites for the 5000m title, and he will also be hoping to help Denmark to a medal in the team competition.
The European Championships will be held in Munich, Germany, from August 15-21.
