Marco Caneira is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played as a left-back. Born on February 9, 1979, in Almada, Portugal, he began his youth career with local club Almada before moving to Sporting CP in 1995. Caneira quickly rose through the ranks at Sporting CP, making his professional debut for the club in the 1997-98 season.

Club Career

Caneira spent the majority of his career in Portugal, playing for several clubs including Sporting CP, FC Porto, and Vitoria de Guimaraes. He won numerous titles during his time in Portugal, including three Primeira Liga championships and two Taca de Portugal titles with Porto.

In addition to his success in Portugal, Caneira also played for Valencia in Spain and Bordeaux in France. He was a key member of the Valencia team that won the La Liga title in 2002-03, and he also played in the UEFA Champions League with both Valencia and Bordeaux.
