Michael Mendl will succeed Götz George in the Berlin "Tatort"

With Michael Mendl, the Berlin "Tatort" has found a worthy successor to Götz George.

Mendl embodies a socially critical, intelligent criminal investigator with a dark past.

The Berlin "Tatort" is getting a new face: Michael Mendl will succeed Götz George as chief inspector. The 59-year-old actor has already proven his acting skills in numerous films, including "The Lives of Others" and "The Counterfeiters".

In the "Tatort", Mendl will play a socially critical, intelligent criminal investigator with a dark past. His character is named Robert Menz, and he comes to Berlin from Brandenburg. Menz is a man of few words, but he is always ready to help others. He is also a passionate advocate for justice.

Mendl's casting was announced today by the broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB). RBB program director Jan Schulte-Kellinghaus said: "We are very pleased to have Michael Mendl as the new chief inspector in the Berlin 'Tatort'. He is a great actor who will bring a lot of depth and authenticity to the role." Mendl himself said: "I am very much looking forward to the challenge of playing the chief inspector in the Berlin 'Tatort'. It is a great honor for me to be part of this team." The first episode with Mendl in the leading role will be broadcast in 2023.

Götz George played the role of chief inspector Horst Schimanski in the Berlin "Tatort" for 27 years. He died in 2016 at the age of 79. Since then, the search for a successor has been ongoing.
