Leipzig win 2-1 in Dortmund and advance to the top of the Bundesliga
RB Leipzig defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 on Saturday, moving into first place in the Bundesliga. Willi Orban and Christopher Nkunku scored for Leipzig, while Marius Wolf pulled one back for Dortmund.
The result was a setback for Dortmund, who had won their previous two games. Leipzig, on the other hand, have now won four of their last five matches and are now two points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
Leipzig took the lead in the 22nd minute when Orban headed in a corner from Dominik Szoboszlai. Dortmund equalized in the 34th minute through Wolf, who fired home from inside the area.
However, Leipzig regained the lead in the 58th minute when Nkunku finished off a counter-attack. Dortmund pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but they were unable to find a way through the Leipzig defense.
The win was Leipzig's first at Dortmund since 2017. It also extended their unbeaten run to five games.
Dortmund's poor form continues
Dortmund's defeat to Leipzig was their third in their last four games. The German giants have now dropped to third in the Bundesliga, six points behind Leipzig.
Dortmund's poor form is a major concern for manager Marco Rose. The German coach has been under pressure since taking over from Lucien Favre in the summer.
Dortmund's next game is a Champions League clash against Manchester City on Wednesday. Rose will be hoping his team can bounce back from their defeat to Leipzig and put in a good performance against the English champions.
Leipzig's title hopes alive
Leipzig's win over Dortmund has given them a major boost in their quest to win the Bundesliga title. The German club are now two points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
Leipzig have a strong squad and they are playing with great confidence at the moment. They will be hoping to maintain their form and challenge Bayern Munich for the title.
Leipzig's next game is a home match against Union Berlin on Tuesday. They will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to six games and move closer to winning their first Bundesliga title.
