Neil Lennon's Rapid Appointment Slammed by Former Chief

Ex-manager feels 'bad guys' holding the club to ransom over managerial appointment

Jim Leishman revealed his unhappiness about Dundee United's decision to appoint Neil Lennon as Jack Ross's successor.

The former Tannadice boss, who was in charge for nine years between 1997 and 2006, has branded those in charge of making the decision as 'bad guys'.

He claims that they have held the club to ransom and that the appointment has not been made in the best interests of the club.

Lennon has been out of work since leaving Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia in March and has now been handed a two-year deal at Tannadice.

However, Leishman is not convinced that he is the right man for the job and believes that the club should have looked elsewhere.

"I'm very disappointed with the appointment," Leishman told the Dundee Evening Telegraph.

"I think it's a backward step for the club. I don't think he's the right man for the job."

"I think there are better managers out there who could have been appointed."

"I think the club has been held to ransom by a few bad guys."

"I don't think the appointment has been made in the best interests of the club."

"I think it's a mistake and I think it will come back to haunt the club."

Leishman's comments come after Dundee United fans protested against the appointment of Lennon outside Tannadice Park on Monday night.

The fans are unhappy with the club's decision to appoint a manager who has a history of sectarian behaviour.

Lennon was found guilty of using sectarian language in 2011 and was banned from the touchline for two games.

He was also involved in a sectarian incident with Rangers fans in 2019.

The fans are concerned that Lennon's appointment will damage the club's reputation and make it difficult to attract new fans.

It remains to be seen whether Lennon will be able to win over the fans and lead Dundee United to success.
