Pichetto: 'Environment and energy are the cornerstones of a development far from ideologies'

Italy's Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, took part in the inauguration of the "Sustainable Development Festival", which takes place until Saturday 22 October across the country.

The minister stressed the importance of "pragmatism" in defining an energy policy based on three fundamental pillars: security of supply, sustainability, and affordability.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the festival, the minister said that "in this extremely complex situation from an energy point of view, the best policies are those that do not follow ideologies but pragmatism".

In this sense, he stressed that "security of supply is fundamental" and that the choice of gas as a "transition fuel" represents a path dictated by "pragmatism".

The minister then addressed the issue of sustainability, underlining the government's commitment to developing renewable energy sources and the need for an "ecological transition towards a more sustainable production system".

Finally, Pichetto Fratin spoke about the importance of affordability, especially in light of the current energy crisis.

"We need to work to reduce the cost of energy for businesses and families," he said. "We will find the resources to help businesses and families pay their bills."

The minister also said that the government is working on a "strategic plan for environmental protection", which will be presented in the coming weeks.

"The plan will contain a series of measures to protect the environment and promote sustainable development," Pichetto Fratin said.

The "Sustainable Development Festival" is a series of events organized by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security to promote sustainable development in Italy.

The festival will feature conferences, exhibitions, and workshops on a variety of topics, including climate change, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.
