Rangers chairman Douglas Park issues warning as Celtic fans set to descend on Glasgow

Neil Lennon's side set for Ibrox showdown in one of the biggest matches of the season so far

Rangers chairman Douglas Park has warned Celtic fans to behave themselves when they descend on Glasgow for Sunday's Old Firm clash.

The highly-anticipated match at Ibrox is one of the biggest of the season so far, with both teams in contention for the Scottish Premiership title.

But Park has urged the visiting supporters to show respect for the city and its people.

'We want to create a positive atmosphere'

"We want to create a positive atmosphere for the game and we want everyone to enjoy the occasion," Park said.

"But we also want to make it clear that any form of disorder or violence will not be tolerated."

"We have a responsibility to the city of Glasgow and to our fans to make sure that the game is played in a safe and enjoyable environment.

"We would ask all Celtic fans to respect our city and our club and to behave in a responsible manner."

Celtic fans have a history of causing trouble in Glasgow

Celtic fans have a history of causing trouble in Glasgow, with several incidents of violence and vandalism in recent years.

In 2011, a group of Celtic fans attacked a Rangers fan in the city centre, leaving him with serious injuries.

And in 2014, a Celtic fan was jailed for three years after he was found guilty of throwing a flare at a Rangers fan during a match at Parkhead.

Police will be out in force on Sunday

Police will be out in force on Sunday to try to prevent any trouble between the two sets of fans.

A large number of officers will be on duty both inside and outside Ibrox Stadium.

And Police Scotland has warned that anyone who is involved in any form of disorder will be dealt with severely.
