Indiana Guard Jalen Shaw Returns Home
Former Pike Grad Transfers to IU, Excited to Show Hoosier State What He's Made Of
Pike High graduate Jalen Shaw announced his transfer to Indiana University on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
After playing two seasons at the University of Miami, Shaw is excited to return to his home state and show Hoosier fans what he's made of.“I'm so excited to be back home and play in front of my family and friends,” Shaw said. “I think I can make a big impact on this team.”
Shaw, a 6-foot-5 guard, averaged 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Hurricanes last season. He was a key part of Miami's run to the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to Auburn in the second round.“Jalen is a great addition to our program,” IU coach Mike Woodson said. “He's a talented player who can score and rebound. He's also a good defender and a hard worker.”
Shaw said he chose to transfer to IU because he wanted to play for a coach who would believe in him and give him a chance to succeed. He also said he was impressed by the Hoosiers' facilities and the atmosphere at Assembly Hall.“I think Indiana is a great fit for me,” Shaw said. “I'm excited to get started and help this team win.”
Shaw is the second player to transfer to IU this offseason, joining former Purdue forward Trey Galloway. The Hoosiers are hoping that Shaw and Galloway can help them improve on last season's 21-14 record.“We're excited to have Jalen join our program,” Woodson said. “He's a talented player who can help us in a lot of ways. We're looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Hoosier uniform.”
