Updated Closures, Service Changes For Kona On IRONMAN Race Day
IRONMAN World Championship Race Day Road Closures and Service Impacts
Kona, Hawaii – (Island of Hawaii Visitors Bureau) –
In anticipation of the 2023 IRONMAN World Championship, the Hawaii Police Department has announced road closures and service changes that will be in effect on race day, Saturday, October 14, 2023.
The following roads will be closed to all traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists, from 4:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14:
- Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway between the Old Kona Airport Intersection and the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) Gate.
- Palani Road between Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway and Kuakini Highway.
- Kuakini Highway between Palani Road and the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway/Hina Lani Street intersection.
- Hina Lani Street between Kuakini Highway and Alii Drive.
- Alii Drive between Hina Lani Street and Walua Road.
- Walua Road between Alii Drive and Kuakini Highway.
- Kamehameha III Road between Walua Road and Palani Road.
- Pali Highway between Hualālai Road and Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway.
In addition to the road closures, there will also be several service changes in effect on race day.
- The Kona Coast Trolley will not be operating on race day.
- The Hele-On Bus will be operating on a modified schedule.
- The Kona International Airport will be open, but there may be delays in getting to and from the airport due to the road closures.
Visitors and residents are advised to plan ahead and allow for extra time to get around Kona on race day.
