Wolves battle back from a goal down to earn a valuable point at the Amex Stadium
In a thrilling encounter at the Amex Stadium, Wolverhampton Wanderers fought back from a goal down to secure a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion. Neal Maupay gave the hosts the lead in the first half, but Fabio Silva equalized for Wolves after the break.
The result was a fair reflection of the balance of play, with both teams having chances to win the game. Brighton started the brighter of the two sides and took the lead in the 15th minute. Leandro Trossard played a delightful through ball to Maupay, who finished coolly past Jose Sa.
Wolves grew into the game as the half progressed and had a number of chances to equalize. However, they were unable to find a way past Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who made a number of excellent saves.
The visitors continued to press in the second half and were eventually rewarded for their efforts. In the 62nd minute, Silva rose highest to meet a cross from Joao Moutinho and head home the equalizer.
Both teams had chances to win the game in the closing stages, but neither side could find a winning goal. The draw leaves Brighton in eighth place in the Premier League table, while Wolves move up to 12th.
Wolves show resilience to earn a point
Wolves showed great resilience to come from behind and earn a point against Brighton. The visitors were second best for much of the first half, but they dug deep in the second half to get back into the game.
Wolves manager Bruno Lage was pleased with his team's performance. "I am very happy with the point," he said. "We showed great character to come back from behind and earn a draw. We created a lot of chances and could have won the game, but we will take the point and move on."
Brighton rue missed chances
Brighton will be disappointed not to have taken all three points. The hosts were the better team for much of the game and had a number of chances to increase their lead.
Brighton manager Graham Potter said: "We are disappointed not to have won the game. We had a number of chances to score, but we didn't take them. We need to be more clinical in front of goal if we want to start winning games."
