Kettlewell on Being Competitive, Quality Up Top & Upcoming Tests
Swans boss Russell Martin has admitted that he was not fully content with his team’s performance against Bristol City, making it clear that he is ‘trying to be competitive in every single game’.
The Swans began their Championship campaign with a 1-0 victory over the Robins at the Swansea.com Stadium, with Ollie Cooper scoring the only goal of the game on his full debut.
While Martin was pleased to get the win, he felt that his team could have played better. ‘I thought we could have been more dominant on the ball and created more chances,’ he said. ‘But we showed good character to win the game.’
Martin was particularly impressed with the performance of his new signings, Cooper and Harry Darling.
‘Ollie was excellent,’ said Martin. ‘He showed great quality and he’s a real handful for defenders. Harry was also very good. He’s a real leader and he organises the defence well.’
The Swans will now face a tough test when they travel to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Martin is expecting a difficult game, but he is confident that his team can get a result.
‘Blackburn are a good team,’ said Martin. ‘They’ve got some good players and they’re well-organised. But we’re going there to win the game. We’re confident that we can get a result if we play to our potential.’
